Wild eyes peer through peep-holes and

from behind closed curtains.

Still bodies lie like corpses

on the floor of a darkened room.

Money begged, borrowed or stolen

will buy more of the crazy rock

that makes them feel so good

but act so bad.

Maybe they call it "crack"

because it puts cracks in lives

and cracks in people

with no one to put the pieces back together.
