Police: Man sold crack as he babysat
TAMPA - A 27-year-old Tampa man is in the county jail on drug
possession and aggravated child abuse charges after police officers
say he sold crack cocaine to one of their informants while caring
for his girlfriend's three young children Wednesday night.
Bobby Lamar Burt, 10939 Brittany Lane, Apt. 66, was arrested at
8:45 p.m. on charges of cocaine and marijuana possession, delivery
of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of drug
paraphernalia and aggravated child abuse.
According to a Tampa police report, at 8:45 p.m. Burt agreed to
meet the informant at the corner of N Boulevard and E Linebaugh
Avenue to deliver $120 worth of crack cocaine.
Burt arrived in a 1974 green four-door Chevrolet, with three
children between 3 and 7 years old inside, police said. The children
were not in child seats or seat belts, according to the police
report.
After Burt gave the informant the drugs, police officers followed
the Chevrolet to 109th Avenue and N Ashley Street, where they felt
they could arrest him without endangering the children,
investigators said.
Officers arrested Burt, then turned the children over to their
mother, Alicia Darlington. Police also reported the incident to a
child abuse hotline.
